X-Ray and Computed Tomography Research

The X-ray and Computed Tomography Focus Group is dedicated to advancing the field of lung imaging. With a wealth of expertise in these areas, the group focuses on improving the detection, precise diagnosis, and therapy follow-up of various lung diseases, including COPD, lung cancer, and infectious diseases. From a technical standpoint, the group's primary interest lies in exploring novel methods for medical X-Ray and Computed Tomography (CT) Imaging, with a special focus on photon counting CT technology, spectral CT applications, dark-field and phase contrast imaging, as well as the integration of machine learning techniques into clinical applications. By combining their medical and technical knowledge, the research group aims to drive innovation in the field of lung imaging, ultimately contributing to enhanced patient care and outcomes.

The group is led by Albrecht Struppler Clinician Scientist Fellow Prof. Daniela Pfeiffer, and also comprises collaboration partners Prof. Daniel Cremers (Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence, TUM), Prof. Julia Herzen (Biomedical Imaging, TUM), and Prof. Franz Pfeiffer (Biomedical Physics, TUM), as well as doctoral student Johannes Thalhammer. It thus combines scientists from three different TUM schools: Medicine, Natural Sciences, and Computation, Information, and Technology.
